Privacy
EuroCarIndex uses no cookies and no accounts. What the link check and plate lookup process, for how long, and your rights.
In short: no cookies, no accounts, no advertising trackers. The calculator runs in your browser. The link check and the Dutch plate lookup process only what they need, for a short, fixed time.
Who is responsible
The operator of EuroCarIndex is the data controller. Contact: hello@eurocarindex.com.
Visiting the site
The site is a set of static pages served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical connection data, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. We do not use this data to identify or profile visitors.
If site statistics are switched on, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and gives us only aggregate figures such as page views.
We set no cookies. If you press the light/dark theme button, that choice is saved in your browser’s local storage and never sent to us.
Calculator
The landed-cost calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us. A link you share carries the values after the “#” in the address, a part that browsers do not send to servers.
Link check
When you submit a link on the check page, our server (hosted by Vercel) opens that one page, once, and reads a fixed set of details: make, model, version, first registration, mileage, fuel, gearbox, power, price, VAT label, CO₂ and engine size, and for Dutch cars the number plate if the page shows it. We do not keep the page itself, its photos or its description.
- The details read are kept for 24 hours, filed under a one-way code made from the link, so that the same link is not opened again.
- Our logs record the site’s host name, which reader ran, the outcome and the time taken. They do not record the full link or your IP address.
- To stop abuse, we count checks per visitor using a salted one-way code made from the IP address. It is kept for 24 hours.
The bookmarklet and the paste-the-text option work in your own browser. They send the details to the check page in the part of the address after “#”, which is not sent to any server.
Dutch number-plate lookup
The plate you enter is sent to our server, which asks the public RDW vehicle register for that car’s technical data. The result is kept for 30 days so the register is not asked again. The plate is not written to our logs.
Legal basis
Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): providing the tools you ask for and protecting them from abuse.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction or erasure of personal data, object to its processing or ask us to restrict it, by writing to hello@eurocarindex.com. You may also complain to a data protection authority; in Portugal this is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).
