Tax disclaimer
The import-cost calculator gives indicative estimates, not tax advice. How it works and what to confirm with the authorities.
The landed-cost calculator gives an indicative estimate. It is not tax advice. Confirm the amounts with the competent authority, or a professional, before you buy.
How the estimate is made
- The rules come from published legislation. Each line of the result names its legal basis and the date from which the table used is in force.
- The tables in force on your planned registration date are used. Tax tables usually change on 1 January. If next year’s tables are not loaded yet, the result says so.
- The result depends on what you enter: CO₂ value and test cycle, engine size, dates, mileage and the seller’s VAT status. A wrong input gives a wrong result. Where an input is uncertain, the calculator assumes the higher tax and says so.
- The seller’s VAT status is your choice, never guessed. If you choose “Don’t know”, both outcomes are shown.
- Transport costs are typical estimates; replace them with a quote.
Portugal
Covers the vehicle tax (ISV, Código do Imposto sobre Veículos), including the age reduction for used cars from other EU countries, VAT where the car counts as a new means of transport or you buy as a business, and typical registration costs. The tax is assessed on the vehicle customs declaration (DAV). Confirm with the Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira or a customs broker (despachante).
Germany
Germany charges no registration tax. The calculator covers VAT where the car counts as a new means of transport (at most 6 months since first registration or at most 6,000 km) and registration costs. The annual vehicle tax (Kfz-Steuer) is not part of the one-off landed cost. Confirm with your registration office (Zulassungsstelle) and tax office (Finanzamt).
Spain and the Netherlands
