Why we do thisCompare used-car asking prices across Europe
Median dealer asking prices in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium, and what the car costs once it is registered at home.
In short
EuroCarIndex aggregates dealer asking prices daily: on 3 Nov 2026 it covered 431,615 used cars across 811 models in Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and Austria. Country medians range from €17,500 in Italy to €25,000 in Austria and cover all cars on sale, so they reflect different market mixes. Each figure needs at least 5 cars from at least 3 dealers.

Like-for-like comparison
Could importing make sense?
The index compares cars of the same model year, mileage band and fuel, so a market full of newer cars does not simply look dearer. 100 is the eight-country average.

Index points are not a saving. Portuguese registration tax (ISV), VAT where due, transport and fees still apply: estimate the full cost before you decide.
